While living alone in her Pacific Beach home, watercolor artist Nancy had been suffering from back pain and fractures that limited her mobility, making regular chores like grocery shopping difficult. (Nancy asked that her last name be omitted for privacy).
About four years ago, when she first connected with ElderHelp of San Diego, volunteers started bringing her to the grocery store to do her shopping. But even when the social distance protocols to stay safe during the pandemic made driving in a car with someone risky, she was still able to receive support through grocery deliveries and weekly “visits” with volunteers over the phone.
